Habitat for Humanity Ireland is delighted to launch Habitat ReStore in Athlone later this year, and is recruiting a Volunteer Coordinator to join our team.

Habitat ReStore’s mission is to build sustainable communities and directly tackle poverty through the reuse of materials. Volunteers gain skills, and community members improve their homes at a lower cost, while reducing waste.

MAIN PURPOSE The volunteer coordinator will provide intentional and meaningful volunteering opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds in ReStore and deliver accredited training programmes to strengthen skills and build capacity, including for those considered‘hard to reach’.

JOB DESCRIPTION Key Responsibilities

Recruit and train ReStore volunteers, providing mentorship and a positive environment for volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

Deliver accredited training programmes that engage, empower, and support volunteers, including those considered‘hard to reach’.

Collaborate with the ReStore manager and others to discuss training needs, identify schedule gaps, and define volunteer roles.

Develop and manage partnerships with suitable organisations to offer placement and training opportunities at Habitat ReStore.

Represent Habitat ReStore at exhibitions, events, and conferences to raise awareness of programmes and promote volunteering.

Support the development and implementation of programme policies, procedures, and best practices.

Manage relationships with internal and external service providers.

Complete administrative tasks including consent forms, partnership agreements, legal and statutory paperwork, and accurate tracking of metrics on databases.

Work as part of the wider team to meet strategic and operational targets and ensure compliance with Habitat Ireland ethos, policies, and legislation.

Perform any other reasonable tasks required by the organisation.

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION Essential Qualifications and Experience

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Minimum of 1 year of experience organising volunteers and delivering programmes.

Understanding of safeguarding and experience of risk assessment when working with volunteers and minors.

Team player who can also work independently and demonstrates initiative.

Strong organisational and computer skills– proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Valid driving licence and access to a car; flexible availability for occasional evenings and weekends.

Commitment to Habitat for Humanity’s vision and mission, reflected in working style.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

Relevant qualification in facilitation, training delivery and development, or volunteer management.

Experience running programmes and facilitating groups of primary and post‑primary school age.

Experience designing and developing training materials, sessions, and programmes.

Experience delivering training to cross‑community and vulnerable groups, especially those with mental health challenges.

Broad understanding of community relations, regeneration, and global development.
