About the Role
The Maintenance Lead is responsible for leading and managing maintenance engineering operations while developing technician capability in structured troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, and reliability-driven maintenance.
This role combines strategic maintenance management with hands-on technical leadership to ensure high standards in safety, quality, cost, reliability, and performance. Acting as both a technical authority and people leader, the Maintenance Lead oversees maintenance execution, supports problem-solving during equipment failures, and drives continuous improvement across the maintenance function.
How you will contribute:
Team Leadership & Development
Lead, supervise, and develop the maintenance technician teamConduct performance reviews and provide coaching, feedback, and training plansAssign tasks and monitor team performance against KPIsMentor technicians in diagnostic thinking and structured problem-solvingPromote use of troubleshooting tools and best practicesFoster a culture of safety, accountability, quality, and continuous improvementLead by example to maintain high standards of workmanship and professionalismTechnical Leadership & Troubleshooting
Provide technical guidance and hands-on support for equipment issuesLead structured fault diagnosis and root cause identificationEnsure focus on eliminating root causes rather than symptomsAct as escalation point for complex or recurring failuresSupport equipment installations, upgrades, and engineering projectsCoordinate shutdowns, turnarounds, and maintenance outagesWork Order Management & Planning
Manage planning and execution of maintenance work ordersCoordinate with planners and schedulers to optimise workflowsEnsure work is completed on time, within budget, and to quality standardsReview and approve maintenance documentation for accuracyAlign maintenance activities with production to minimise downtimeTrack corrective actions through to completionReactive & Corrective Maintenance Governance
Ensure breakdown and reactive maintenance is executed safely and efficientlyMaintain high-quality documentation of failures and corrective actionsPrevent repeat failures through proper root cause analysis and follow-upReliability & Performance
Support root cause analysis and reliability improvement initiativesMonitor KPIs such as uptime, PM compliance, and maintenance backlogIdentify and implement process improvementsCollaborate with reliability engineering to optimise maintenance strategiesImprove preventive maintenance plans and technical documentationQuality & Compliance
Ensure compliance with GMP, EHS, and regulatory requirementsMaintain accurate records in CMMS (e.g., SAP)Support audits, inspections, and quality systems (Deviations, CAPAs)Cost & Resource Management
Monitor and control maintenance costsOptimise labour utilisation and eliminate inefficienciesManage spare parts and coordinate with storesOversee contractors and external service providersContinuous Improvement
Drive consistent standards in troubleshooting and maintenance practicesEncourage technician involvement in improvement initiatives (e.g., FMEA)Promote a strong learning and continuous improvement cultureStakeholder Collaboration
Work closely with Operations, Planning, Reliability Engineering, and vendorsCommunicate clearly on breakdowns, risks, and corrective actionsSupport cross-functional problem-solvingHealth, Safety & Compliance
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety standards and proceduresPromote safe systems of work, including lockout/tagoutIdentify and escalate safety risks promptlyWhat you bring to Takeda:
Essential:
Technical diploma, apprenticeship, or trade certification (Mechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation)Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience, including 2 years in a leadership roleExperience with CMMS systems (preferably SAP PM)Knowledge of GMP in regulated environmentsAbility to read technical drawings (P&IDs, electrical schematics)Strong troubleshooting experience in industrial/manufacturing environmentsDesirable:
Engineering degree or equivalentExperience with PLCs, automation, and control systemsKnowledge of Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM)Project management experienceExperience in regulated industries (pharma, medical, food)Skills & Competencies
