As an Amazon Project Design Mechanical Engineer, you will lead design projects in operational data centers that remediate issues, upgrade existing infrastructure, or add new services. You will be the go‑to engineering resource for these projects and provide lifecycle support from design through implementation. You will have the opportunity to work on projects locally and globally.

Key job responsibilities
Perform design and equipment submittal review for data centers in your region.
Interface with internal and external data center design engineering teams, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team, field engineering, and controls engineering to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
Act as a technical subject matter expert for your discipline during new remediation projects.
Support construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover.
Possess strong engineering judgement and are able to provide design recommendations despite uncertainty.
Be detail‑oriented and data‑oriented with familiarity with design and construction processes.
Have experience managing engineering projects and engineering consultants.
Build trust and relationships with stakeholders (operations, commissioning, construction, and design).
Manage design and as‑built drawings and documents.
Prepare and present progress reports to all relevant stakeholders.
Be inclined to get into the field to see things up close.
A day in the life Each day you will interact with different teams responsible for various aspects of the data centers. You will mentor and oversee the work of junior engineers in your discipline. You will have the opportunity to work on projects locally and globally, with up to 25% travel.
Basic qualifications
Knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems design.
Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities, including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Preferred qualifications
Professional Engineer license.
Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
