Senior Ecologist– RSK Ireland RSK Ireland, part of RSK Group, is recruiting a Senior Ecologist to join our growing ecology team. This permanent full‑time role is hybrid and offers flexibility to work between home and office. We are hiring across the province of Munster – please specify your preferred location in your application.
The successful candidate will lead survey work and support national planning efforts through biodiversity assessment and project management for a variety of Ireland‑wide and local projects.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee medium/large projects and tenders from inception to completion.
Handle project finance, resource allocation, contractor management, risk and quality assurance, ensuring timely delivery and effective communication with clients.
Mentor junior team members and coordinate ecology surveyors on projects.
Develop expertise in a chosen ecological discipline (ornithology, bats, freshwater ecology, marine, etc.).
Engage in continuous professional development by attending conferences, training events, and staying current with emerging science.
Apply extensive knowledge of ecology, legislation, and survey techniques, including protected species surveys and mitigation.
Scope survey requirements, design studies, and lead fieldwork for ecological impact assessments and protected species surveys (including preliminary ecological appraisals, EcIA, AA screening reports, Natura impact statements, and biodiversity management plans).
Produce high‑quality technical reports and perform data analysis.
Critically review ecological reports prepared by colleagues.
Assist with business development by preparing quotations and maintaining client relationships.
Work independently and collaboratively with regional ecologists to deliver quality projects on time.
Act as the primary ecologist contact for clients, providing solid technical advice.
Complete fieldwork, including out‑of‑hours surveys and travel to work sites.
Maintain strong communication and collaboration within the ecology team, liaising with senior ecologists and mentoring junior members.
Conduct desk research for specific projects and keep the team up to date with industry guidelines.
Act with professional integrity and sound judgment at all times.
Person Specification (Essential)
A degree in ecology, zoology, biology, or environmental science.
Seven or more years of relevant experience, or proven experience in a similar role.
A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
Membership of CIEEM at a level commensurate with experience.
A proactive attitude to time management, problem‑solving, and delivery of high‑standard work.
Ability to work well within a team and mentor junior colleagues.
