Contract/Duration : Specified purpose contract, up to 2 years Remuneration : Up to Point 5 on the IUA Post Doctorate Researcher (PD1) pay scale, depending on experience Closing Date : 29th May 2026 Summary of Post

We are seeking a post-doctoral researcher for the Research Ireland Strategic Partnership programme PRISM, which focuses on breast cancer brain metastasis (BCBM). BCBM are a frequent and aggressive form of metastatic spread with limited treatment options. The successful candidate will join Prof Leonie Young and Dr Damir Vareslija and their team to identify the molecular mechanisms controlling the evolution of metastasis in breast cancer and define key regulators of metastatic spread.By mining multi-omic (genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic) data, new druggable targets gained in BCBM will be identified. Key genes, core to the tumour adaptive process, will be identified, providing a platform for discovery of new metastatic drug targets. Drug target validation will be undertaken using spatial genomics and advanced tissue imaging. This novel approach will provide innovative therapeutic targets less susceptible to resistance. The research project will be conducted in a highly collaborative environment. The successful candidate will be expected to design and carry out experimental plans, lead study execution, analyse experimental data, prepare manuscripts and mentor PhD students, and also support other ongoing research projects in the lab.Specifically, the duties of the post are: To lead a study to determine the metastatic oncogenic signals in BCBM and identify novel therapeutic targets To independently plan, execute, analyse, and manage multiple experiments simultaneously To maintain accurate, detailed records of experimental data and protocolsTo create visually impactful representations of data for publications and presentations To work in a team environment and, as needed, train new personnel and mentor postgraduate students as required Contribute to the preparation of high-impact peer review scientific publications and to disseminate research findings at national and international meetingsTo attend courses and meetings as appropriate to maintain up to date knowledge To perform any other duties as may be appropriate to the grade or as determined to be required for the purposes of PRISM research grant Qualifications– (Essential): The candidate should have a higher degree (PhD or equivalent) in the area of cancer research/molecular biology or relevant areaExpertise in advanced molecular and translational cancer research techniques, including functional genomics and epigenomics, genome engineering, and the use of patient-derived and preclinical models to investigate mechanisms of metastasis and treatment resistance Evidence of a strong research track record, demonstrated through first-author and co-author peer-reviewed publications in relevant fields, is highly desirableExperience in translation of novel therapeutics Bioinformatic and statistical analysis skills
