Clinical Nurse Manager 1 (CNM1) | Occupational Health Dept., Cork

Specific Purpose Contract, Part time Hours.

The Occupational Health Service exists to promote and maintain the physical, mental, and social wellbeing of employees. The services address the impact of work on health and health on work. The aims of the service include the prevention of ill health and injury by promoting a positive health & safety culture.

The post holder will report to the CNM3, Occupational Health (OH) Department.

Responsibilities Include:

• Work within their scope of practice to manage and care for the OH and wellbeing of employees under the guidance of the OH CNM3, CNM2s & the Occupational Health Physician.
• Support the provision of care that is of the highest quality.
• Adhere to and upload the principles of the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics, 2025.
• Show respect, kindness, consideration and empathy in communication and interaction with employees.
• Provide services in line with Mercy University Hospital (MUH) Core Values of respect, justice, compassion, excellence and team spirit.
• Ensure confidentiality is maintained in relation to all OH records and communications.
• Be a key member of the OH Team with the ability to work with all levels of staff within the OH Department in promoting & developing the role of OH.
• Provides appropriate care for employees who sustain work injuries/ illness & consult with the CNM2 or CNM3 to decide appropriate follow up /intervention deemed necessary.
• Administer appropriate follow up of staff who sustain blood and body fluid exposures.
• Display competence in venepuncture and be up to date with relevant training.
• Administer and maintain records of the relevant immunisation for staff and contractors under medication protocols, e.g. hepatitis B vaccinations, MMR vaccines, Influenza vaccine, etc.
• Carry out pre-employment health screening for all potential employees with appropriate referral to the CNM2, CNM3 or OH Physician for further assessment if required.
• Liaise with managers following referral of employees to the OH Department, indicating how best to support employees following sickness absence/work injuries etc.
• Competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Liaise with the hospital's Health & Safety Department as required in respect of work accidents, incidents and/or health & safety issues onsite.
• Liaise with the Infection, Prevention & Control Department and Consultant Microbiologist on any relevant Infection Control issues.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Be a registered nurse on the active Register of Nurses and Midwives held by An Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann (NMBI/Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) or be eligible to be so registered.
• Be registered in the General Division of the register of Nurses and Midwives.
• Have a minimum of either 2 years Occupational health experience or completion of a relevant Occupational Health Qualification.
• Demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development.

Working Hours - Please note this position is a Job Share position with set days and times every week:

• Week 1: Wednesday 8am to 5pm; Thursday 8am to 5pm; Friday 8am to 12pm.
• Week 2: Monday 8am to 5pm; Tuesday 8am - 5pm.
