Accountant / Financial Controller
Location: Co. Carlow

Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting
Prepare monthly management accounts and KPI reports.
Produce annual statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors and accountants.
Maintain the general ledger, fixed asset register, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Monitor margins by business unit (composting, skip hire, waste collection, and product sales).
Budgeting and Forecasting
Prepare annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
Analyse variances and provide recommendations to management.
Model investment proposals and capital expenditure projects.
Cash Flow and Treasury
Manage daily cash flow and banking relationships.
Prepare short- and long-term cash flow forecasts.
Monitor debtor collections and creditor payments.
Accounts Payable and Receivable
Oversee purchase ledger, supplier reconciliations, and payment runs.
Manage customer invoicing, credit control, and debt collection.
Ensure customer and supplier master data accuracy.
Payroll
Manage weekly payroll.
Manage PAYE, PRSI, pensions, and related statutory submissions.
Tax and Compliance
Prepare and file VAT, PAYE, and CSO returns.
Ensure compliance with Revenue regulations.
Support grant reporting and environmental regulatory submissions.
Operational and Commercial Support
Assist with tender submissions and pricing analysis.
Systems and Controls
Strengthen internal controls and financial procedures.
Improve reporting automation.
Support digitisation of financial and operational data.
The Person Candidate Requirements
Qualifications
Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CPA) or possibly qualified by experience.
Proven experience in a senior accounting or financial controller role.
Experience
SME and owner-managed business experience preferred.
Experience with Sage Line 50.
Technical Skills
Strong financial reporting and management accounting skills.
Advanced Excel skills.
Knowledge of Irish tax and payroll legislation.
Personal Attributes
Hands‑on and practical approach.
Strong communication skills.
Commercial mindset with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Monthly accounts completed within agreed deadlines.
Accurate cash flow forecasts.
Reduction in debtor days.
Compliance with all statutory deadlines.
