Job Overview The Irish Blood Transfusion Service is seeking a passionate and skilled

Medical Scientist

to join the Diagnostics Laboratory Department in Cork Centre. This is a highly specialised and impactful healthcare environment supporting lifesaving transfusion services across the Munster region.

Location: Cork Centre. Employment: Full‑time, temporary.

Salary:€44,831 – €74,404 (incl. LSI) pro rata per annum. Closing date: Wednesday, 20th May 2026 at 23:45 Irish Time. Immediate start or after required notice period.

Key Responsibilities

Investigation of complex red cell antibodies

Cross‑matched blood provision for patients with complex antibodies

Investigation of haemolytic transfusion reactions

ABO/Rh typing and blood group anomaly investigations

Antenatal screening and support for at‑risk pregnancies

Extended donor/patient phenotyping

Rare blood importation for named patients

Platelet stock management for the Munster region

Emergency out‑of‑hours laboratory support

Clinical and scientific advice to hospital colleagues

Essential Requirements

Full membership of ACSLM or CORU registration/eligibility

Experience working in GMP/GLP environments

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Flexibility and adaptability in a fast‑paced environment

Good computer skills

Desirable Experience

Red cell serology and antibody identification

Complex immunohaematology investigations

Blood transfusion laboratory experience

Knowledge of ISO15189:2012 accreditation
