This internshipprovidesan opportunity for biosciences (or similar discipline) graduates to gain valuable experience bridging the gap between study and work. They will bein a positionto develop their skills and knowledge base in a workplace setting under the full support and guidance of a SETU mentor. In addition, the intern will be able to apply their knowledge in a real work environment, gain networkingopportunitiesand build their confidence, thus enhancing their career prospects.The range of duties assigned to an intern mayvary greatly, butthe followingindicatesome of the principal supervised duties and responsibilities: Work in a research environment: the successful candidate will be involved with work on individual research projects as the need arises and as instructed by the Directors ofenviroCORE.Maturing in positions of responsibility: the intern will be involved in the monitoring of the laboratory equipment and liaise with the Chief Technical Officer of the Department for a prompt andtimelyresponse to any problems. They will also be involved in monitoring availability of general laboratory consumables and organise communal orders. In addition, the Intern willassistwith the safe disposal of the communal laboratory waste.Teamwork and Coordination: via the above-mentioned activities the Intern will be central to the operation ofenviroCOREand will liaise with all members of the CORE at various degrees. This experience will be catalytic in developing the Intern’s teamwork skills. Networking: via their research activities they willestablishvaluable contacts and networks thus enhancing their future career prospects. These can beestablishedvia contacts with national and international collaborators, involvement with Teagasc linked projects, liaising with industrial partners as necessary, and attending conferences (e.g., Environ). The Intern may also be involved in bioscience and environmental science outreach e.g., Science week in the promotion ofScienceto the wider community.Undertake other duties as required by the Head of Department orotherdesignated person
