About the Role The Executive Producer (Sport) is a senior editorial and creative leader responsible for all Virgin Media Television sports output across broadcast, digital, social and the Virgin Media Player. Reporting directly to the Head of Sport, the Executive Producer is a key member of the Sports Leadership Team.
This role leads the entire sports production department, overseeing the development, production and delivery of all live events, studio shows, highlights programming, feature‑led content and digital‑first storytelling. The Executive Producer ensures that VMTV’s sports output remains innovative, ambitious, audience‑focused and future‑facing, never resting on past achievements.
The role carries substantial responsibility for editorial leadership, team development and line management, creative innovation, planning, financial delivery, cross‑department collaboration and for ensuring that Virgin Media’s sports coverage remains at the cutting edge of content, technology and multi‑platform engagement. The Executive Producer plays a central role in defining and delivering the overall sports content strategy, vision and growth of VMTV’s sports coverage.
Specific Duties and Tasks
Lead the editorial and creative vision for all sports content across Virgin Media Television.
Ensure output is visually distinctive, authoritative, innovative and aligned with audience expectations.
Oversee the execution of all major sporting properties, ensuring top‑level editorial standards and creative ambition.
Serve as a senior editorial decision‑maker, ensuring accuracy, compliance and adherence to VMTV’s editorial values.
Drive new approaches to sports storytelling across live, highlights, long‑form, and digital‑first content.
Continue to take an active, hands‑on production role when required, including producing major programmes and providing support across the department whenever needed to ensure delivery of the highest standards.
Acts as the final escalation point for editorial, operational and resourcing decisions within the sports production function.
Forward Planning&Content Development
Lead short, medium and long‑term planning for all sports output, including major events and rights‑driven content.
Work with the Head of Sport to develop long‑range strategy and growth plans, responsible for delivering the overall sports content strategy.
Create new formats, new digital strands, new franchises and innovative editorial concepts.
Ensure VMTV’s sports coverage is continuously refreshed, forward‑thinking and positioned to evolve with audience behaviour.
Identify upcoming editorial opportunities, talent, events and new content avenues.
Provide senior leadership to the entire sports department, setting high standards, clear expectations and a culture of innovation.
Line‑manage and set direction and priorities for Supervising Producers and wider production teams.
Lead editorial meetings, output reviews and staff development initiatives.
Drive a culture of excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Develop on‑air and off‑air talent through structured coaching, feedback and growth opportunities.
Role model the organisational values; Bold, Straight‑up and Together in communication and leading teams.
Offer input and advice on contributor and presenter selection where required.
Stakeholder&Cross‑Department Collaboration
Serve as a senior point of contact for rights holders, sports bodies, agencies and external partners.
Support the Head of Sport and Director of News&Sport during pitches for new rights and negotiations, providing editorial and production expertise.
Work closely with Digital, Operations, News, Publicity, Marketing and Commercial to ensure cohesive, integrated output.
Ensure commercial requirements are delivered authentically within sports programming without compromising editorial integrity.
Represent the sports team in senior internal forums and cross‑organisational projects.
Innovation, Technology&Digital Integration
Lead innovation in sports content and production across broadcast, digital, social and emerging technology.
Drive experimentation with new formats, workflows, digital techniques and AI‑driven enhancements where appropriate.
Own KPIs for social content performance and work with the Digital Department to expand VMTV’s sports footprint across all platforms.
Ensure seamless integration between broadcast coverage and digital/social storytelling.
Keep VMTV’s sports output at the forefront of industry trends, tools and techniques.
Oversee budget planning and delivery for all sports programming, ensuring efficient use of resources and cost‑effective production.
Holds full accountability for departmental budgets, financial performance and resource strategy.

Ensure all sports programming is delivered on time, in full and to the highest creative and editorial standards.
