The Occupational Therapist will provide high-quality, client-centered therapeutic services to older adults experiencing psychiatric illnesses with the community. The role involves assessing, planning, and implementing therapeutic interventions to support recovery, improve functional abilities, and enhance quality of life.
The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and a strong existing OT team reporting directly to the Occupational Therapy Manager.
Key Responsibilities of Occupational Therapist (Psychiatry in Later Life)
Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy assessments, including cognitive, physical, and psychosocial evaluations.
Develop individualized care plans based on client needs, goals, and evidence-based practices.
Deliver interventions to improve daily living skills, cognitive functioning, and social engagement.
Promote client recovery through therapeutic activities, environmental adaptations, and caregiver support.
Monitor and review treatment outcomes, adjusting interventions as necessary.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and social workers, to ensure integrated care.
Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and service planning discussions.
Provide training and advice to families and caregivers on supporting clients in their home and community environments.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date clinical records in line with HSE standards.
Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and professional guidelines, including data protection and confidentiality.
Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and protocols for the POLL service.
Participate in audits, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) to maintain knowledge and skills.
Supervise and support students or junior occupational therapists, as required.
Qualifications forOccupational Therapist (Psychiatry in Later Life)
Degree in Occupational Therapy
Current CORU registration.
Experience working with older adults in mental health or a related field.
Strong assessment and clinical reasoning skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including empathy and the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
