The Carlow&South Leinster Rape Crisis Centre provides essential support services to survivors of sexual violence and abuse. The organisation is committed to delivering confidential counselling, advocacy, and education services, while promoting awareness and prevention across the community.
As a Trustee/Board Member, you will provide strategic leadership, governance, and oversight to ensure the organisation achieves its mission, remains financially sustainable, and operates in line with its values and legal obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to the development and oversight of the organisation’s
strategy and long-term direction
Ensure strong
governance and compliance
with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards
Monitor
financial performance , budgets, and resource allocation
Support and hold accountable the
Manager and senior leadership team
Act as an ambassador for the organisation, promoting its work and values
Participate in board meetings (typically 11/12per year) and relevant subcommittees
Contribute expertise in areas such as safeguarding, finance, HR, legal, communications, or fundraising (as relevant)
Essential
Commitment to the mission and values of supporting survivors of sexual violence
Understanding of
good governance principles
Ability to think strategically and contribute to board-level discussions
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Integrity, sound judgement, and discretion
Desirable (not required)
Experience in the
non-profit/charity sector
Professional expertise in areas such as:
Finance or accounting
Legal or compliance
HR or organisational development
Fundraising or communications
Healthcare, social services, or trauma-informed practice
Previous board experience
Trustees must uphold strict confidentiality and demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding vulnerable individuals. Training may be provided as required.
