Job Description We are hiring an Aquatic Ecologist to join our growing Ecology team and meet the increasing demand for the company’s services. The successful candidate will work on a wide variety of projects in multiple sectors, including wind energy, drainage, road and infrastructure projects. Our Ecology Team is one of Ireland’s largest, full‑time professional ecology practices and works nationwide. The successful candidate would be expected to:
Have freshwater ecological experience including electrofishing, kick sampling, fisheries habitat appraisal and river habitat assessment.
Work as part of the Ecology team to deliver project requirements.
Manage medium to large‑scale projects from inception to completion.
Have excellent ecological field skills, highlighting any specialist ecological expertise (academic or interest) in their application.
Have an in‑depth knowledge of various environmental issues fundamental to preparing high‑quality ecological impact assessments.
The successful candidates will have at least 2-5 years of post‑graduate ecological experience, ideally in a consultancy environment.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct aquatic ecological fieldwork such as electrofishing for large‑scale wind energy developments and small‑scale fish translocation projects, kick sampling, river habitat appraisals and protected species surveys.
Prepare, compile and project‑manage ecological assessments, including Ecological Impact Assessments (EIA), Habitats Directive Assessments, EIA Biodiversity chapters and aquatic baseline reports.
Undertake desk studies, ecological fieldwork and impact assessment reporting to best‑practice guidelines and methodologies.
Prepare scope of work and fee proposal documents for new projects.
Efficiently manage interactions with clients, project team members and sub‑consultants.
Engage with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
Deliver fit‑for‑purpose project outputs within set deadlines.
Prospective candidates should have excellent report‑writing skills, be well‑organised with meticulous attention to detail, and be able to manage a varied and full workload. They should thrive in a busy work environment and deliver on required project deadlines.
