Description
This position will be filled by an underground geotechnical engineer with experience in ground control and management, creation of ground control management plans, creation of non-standard support plans and risk assessment, stope assessment, geotechnical mapping, geotechnical logging, testing of support materials and installation, testing of shotcrete and rock mass. The successful person will be expected to maintain oversight and contribute to the above ensuring all activities are carried out in a safe and environmentally responsible way while dealing with complex underground conditions.
Responsibilities
Compliance with all Health and Safety regulations and prescribed industry standards.
Compliance with all environmental stipulations made by the operating company and environmental regulators.
Manage and contribute to mine planning and design activities and maintain operational oversight on all ground control related activities.
Keep up to date with current technologies and best practice and continuously identify and implement opportunities for process and cost improvement.
Communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders, team, contractors and regulators.
Provide leadership and mentoring to a team of mining professionals.
Manage all documents, reports, testing, and monitoring in relation to all ground control related activities. Collaborate with other Employees to update mine plans and ground support and convey changes in support and conditions to staff and contractors.
Work alongside the owner team and contractors to ensure risks are managed and that costs are managed and optimized.
Complete mine rescue training upon hiring.
Qualifications and Experience
A degree in Geotechnical Engineering from a recognized University.
At least 8 years of experience in underground hard rock mining. Preferably with experience in narrow vein gold mining and stoping.
Prior exposure to challenging ground conditions.
Sound knowledge and understanding of ground control and management, creation of ground control management plans, creation of non-standard support plans and risk assessment, stope assessment, geotechnical mapping, geotechnical logging, testing of support materials and installation, testing of shotcrete and rock mass.
Working knowledge of Deswik, Leapfrog or similar.
Full clean driving licence is essential.
Collaborative approach to mining and teamwork with strong leadership skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
