Administrative Assistant (Loans Department) North Midlands Credit Union is currently recruiting for the role of an administrative assistant to join our Loans Department. This is a full-time permanent position based in Mullingar.
About the Role North Midlands Credit Union is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Loans Officer to join our Lending Department. Reporting directly to the Head of Lending, the successful candidate will support day-to-day loan operations, engage with members, and ensure efficient handling of loan applications from initial query to underwriting. The position involves daily interaction with members, requiring exceptional communication skills, commitment to outstanding customer service, proactive member support, and thorough understanding of lending procedures.
Key responsibilities
Work under the supervision of the Credit Officer or as delegated.
Implement the Credit Union lending policy efficiently.
Deal efficiently and courteously with members, exercising judgement and care in loan approval and recommendation.
Provide expert, tailored lending advice based on each member's needs.
Act as the first point of contact for loan queries; take and assess loan applications across the Credit Union’s full range of loan products, via in-person, telephone, online and other channels, following policies.
Conduct thorough financial assessments to determine suitable options.
Maintain CRM records and manage pipeline activity efficiently.
Answer other member queries as they arise.
Maintain fast turnaround times while ensuring compliance with AML and lending policies.
Collaborate with marketing and business development to enhance member offerings.
Contribute to departmental meetings and help shape a member‑centred lending service.
Other duties delegated by Management or Supervisory staff from time to time.
The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience
3–5 years personal lending experience in a financial institution.
Self‑motivated with a “Right First‑Time” ethos.
Organised approach with ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
Skilled in engaging with members and understanding their financial needs.
Minimum APA qualification (QFA Loans module + QFA Regulation module) or full QFA desirable.
Strong credit lending and underwriting experience essential.
Excellent organisational skills with demonstrable ability to develop and enhance work practices.
Ability to work on own initiative and as part of larger lending team.
Full clean driving licence and own transport essential.
