Objective of this post: Welcome to the RCSI Graduate School of Healthcare Management. As part of a dedicated health sciences university, we provide management and leadership research, education and training to health professionals around the world. As Ireland's only third level institution exclusively focused on developing the leadership and management competencies of health professionals, the School has grown rapidly, with over 1,000 students currently registered on postgraduate programmes in leadership, healthcare management, quality and patient safety; with exciting new programmes in digital health, change, and empowering women leaders. We have an established record of developing leaders in Ireland, the Middle East and Africa, with the ambition to go further. Our research seeks to solve challenges and improve health systems for the benefit of human health. We conduct research on quality improvement and patient safety; the health and social care workforce; healthcare management; leadership; ageing research; and safety culture, including just culture. In our research, we use innovative research methodologies including co-design, realist and ethnographic methods, and we draw on implementation science, behaviour change and health economic frameworks. Our research is funded by organisations such as the Health Research Board (HRB), Research Ireland and the World Health Organisation (WHO). We welcome applications from all areas of healthcare management but are particularly keen to receive applications from candidates in the following disciplinary areas: Healthcare Management (broadly defined) Leadership Sustainability in Healthcare Quality&Risk Specifically the duties of the role are; To take responsibility for overseeing, developing and promoting innovative teaching and learning approaches and material which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students. To lead the design, development and delivery teaching of a range of academic modules/programmes and ensure that design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the School and University. To generate new research approaches and identify, adapt, develop and use research methodologies and techniques appropriate to the type of research undertaken. To publish high impact research in quality journals and books, either as a sole author or in collaboration with others. To devise, direct and develop research projects generating external research funding. To lead on and/or contribute to research outputs and research outcomes. To effectively undertake a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities Teaching and Learning Responsibilities To continually update knowledge and understanding in the field of specialism. To extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship. To contribute to innovations in teaching and learning through the development of academic programmes and by developing innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and materials which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students To set and mark programme work and assessments. To provide appropriate feedback to students To identify areas where current teaching provision is in need of revision or improvement and propose and implement improvements To supervise, mentor and guide the work of research staff and research students To collaborate with academic and operation colleagues in teaching development, delivery and quality assurance. Research&Scholarship Responsibilities To obtain new knowledge by theoretical and/or practical methods To engage actively in research at a high level and to demonstrate intellectual leadership and achieve high visibility/impact in the field, at national and international level To develop innovative research proposals, identify and obtaining external sources of funding, submit funding applications and plan the research activities to be undertaken To ensure appropriate dissemination of research to national and international audiences by scholarly publication or other outputs appropriate to the relevant academic discipline To develop national and international research links and use expertise, experience and judgement to decide how to design and execute research work To engage in external academic activities and to monitor research findings with a view to maximizing impact. To contribute to the wider academic community through, for example, editing journals, refereering papers, external examining and involvement in professional bodies. Management and Administration To contribute to the administration and management of the School to facilitate the effective operation of the School and programmes To undertake the duties of a Module Director and Programme Director as required, To take responsibility for the design, development and management of modules and supervising adjunct staff To contribute to the administration and management and wider life of the University. To advise, supervise and give guidance to other School staff as appropriate PERSON SPECIFICATION Qualifications and Experience PhD degree or equivalent in relevant subject area Appropriate academic professional and teaching qualification or a willingness to complete one Achievements in scholarship and research at an international level A proven track record in research with high quality journal/book publications and conference presentations A track record of teaching and learning in Higher Education at postgraduate level Knowledge Specialist knowledge in relevant subject area Well established national reputation in relevant subject area Experience of, or demonstrable willingness to engage in, healthcare management related research and teaching Knowledge of a range of research techniques and methodologies Knowledge of a range of teaching techniques to enthuse and engage post-graduate students and learners Experience of teaching post-graduates and online teaching is desirable Advanced and specialist IT knowledge Research expertise in an area that will complement and enhance the School's research strategy and goals International research and scholarship profile Skills, Abilities and Competencies Ability to provide academic leadership in research and/or teaching Leadership skills including ability to supervise the work and development of others, e.g. as research supervisor at MSc or PhD level Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to write and/or contribute to publications and/or to disseminate research findings using other appropriate media Ability to teach at any level within area of expertise, and across a range of subjects at an introductory level and demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment in the process of teaching Ability to deliver presentations at conferences or exhibit work at other appropriate events internally and externally Ability to extend, …
