Objective of this post: The Lecturer in Epidemiology will contribute to high-quality teaching and assessment of RCSI's undergraduate medicine programmes and population health postgraduate programmes. The postholder will also play a key role in advancing the research agenda of the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology by contributing to the consolidation and further development of its research output. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong Epidemiology background and experience in designing and delivering academic programmes. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, innovative educator and researcher, who thrives within a diverse, multicultural academic environment. Specific Responsibilities Teaching and learning Contribute to epidemiology teaching in the Direct Entry and Graduate Entry Medicine Programmes through: development and delivery of high-quality educational materials design, coordination and grading of both in-module and end of module assessments Contribute to postgraduate teaching within population health and related programmes as required Contribute to the development of the curriculum, new teaching programmes, teaching modalities and modes of assessment Supervise undergraduate students and postgraduate students at Masters and PhD levels. Research Contribute to the departmental research agenda as required by the Head of Department Develop and maintain an active research profile, including high-quality publications, presentations, and engagement in grant activity. Academic Service&Citizenship Liaise with and provide support to colleagues in the RCSI Schools and across the RCSI international campus in Bahrain, as required Undergo programmes of training and development, as may be required Represent the best interests of the Department and RCSI at all times Contributing to quality assurance/quality improvement Performing such other related duties as may be required. Person Specification Essential: A PhD in Epidemiology or a cognate discipline (e.g. Biostatistics, Health Services Research) Demonstrated ability to teach epidemiology or quantitative health sciences at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level Experience in curriculum design and assessment development Strong quantitative skills and proficiency in statistical software (e.g. Stata) Ability to engage students through a range of teaching modes including through online delivery formats Research profile including high quality relevant publications in peer reviewed journals and/or grant funding commensurate with experience Effective communication style appropriate to audience and situation Excellent time-management skills in order to effectively progress across all three domains of responsibilities (teaching, research and service) Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships - actively collaborating with colleagues Deadline-oriented, while delivering high quality teaching and research. Person Specification Desirable: Experience supervising student dissertations or research projects Experience of presentations at national and international meetings and conferences Strong commitment to own personal and professional development Proven ability for both independent and team work Relevant academic administrative/management experience. The appointee will report to the Head of Department or nominee. Teaching is delivered on site, with some remote teaching. A presence on site in Dublin will be required to fulfil important student-centred aspects of the role.
