Role Title:Senior Dietitian Narcolepsy Job Reference Number:002374 Closing Date:Sunday, 7th June 2026 Purpose of the Role: To provide a comprehensive Clinical Nutrition service to the National Narcolepsy and Related Sleep Disorders Service and associated clinical areas. Act as a therapeutic dietitian to patients under the care of consultant neurologist, neurophysiologist and specialist team in narcolepsy and related sleep disorders and associated areas and develop, implement and monitor nutrition care plans to meet individual patient needs using evidence-based practice. Communicate, collaborate and work effectively with patients, carers, colleagues, hospital staff and other health professionals to deliver quality care in a multi-disciplinary team setting. Develop educational materials and resources to meet patient and service needs. Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of dietetic care pathways, effective and efficient referral processes, protocols and other resources in this area in line with operational principles of St. Jamess Hospital. Develop dietetic service to patients ensuring most effective use of resources to meet the agreed goals for the Clinical Nutrition service to this area. Maintain appropriate records and regular activity reports, monitor KPIs and actively participate in service planning for the Clinical Nutrition service to narcolepsy and related sleep disorders. Initiate and participate in nutrition-related research and audit in this area and disseminate results. Supervise staff grade dietitian as assigned. Actively participate in student training and staff education and development programmes. Maintain professional competence and demonstrate commitment to Continuous Professional Development. Participate and cooperate with legislative and regulatory requirements in relation to Health and Safety as outlined in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the Hospital Safety Statement Ensure own mandatory learning and training is kept up to date Required: Candidates for appointment must: (i) Be registered as a Dietitian by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU And (ii) Have 3 years full time (or an aggregate of 3 years full time) post qualification dietetic experience. And (iii) Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office And (iv) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Dietitians Register maintained by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued. Annual registration (i) On appointment, practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Dietitians Register maintained by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU And (ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to Human Resources, St Jamess Hospital by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC) And Clinical skills to provide a comprehensive Clinical Nutrition service to inpatients and outpatients in narcolepsy and related sleep disorders services, neurology and related areas. Desired: Demonstrated Behaviour Change and motivational interviewing skills. Demonstrated experience in obesity management including obesity pharmacotherapy side effects. Demonstrated experience in managing patients with eating disorders. Demonstrated experience in nutrition support including home enteral feeding.
