Role Title:Senior Dietitian Acute Medical Admissions Unit (AMAU) Job Reference Number:002375 Closing Date:Sunday, 7th June 2026 Purpose of the Role: To provide a comprehensive Clinical Nutrition service to patients admitted to the Acute Medical Assessment Unit encompassing Short Stay Medical Unit (SSMU) Act as a therapeutic dietitian to patients admitted to the AMAU and associated areas and develop, implement and monitor nutrition care plans to meet individual patient needs using evidence-based practice. Communicate, collaborate and work effectively with patients, carers, hospital staff and other health professionals to deliver quality care in a multi-disciplinary team setting. Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of dietetic care pathways, effective referral processes, protocols and resources in line with the acute medicine service and operational principles of St Jamess Hospital. Develop dietetic service to patients ensuring most effective use of resources to promote early, safe discharge and meet the agreed goals and service agreement for the Clinical Nutrition service to AMAU. Maintain appropriate electronic patient records, data and activity reports. Actively participate in service planning for the Clinical Nutrition service to AMAU and the acute floor. Develop educational materials and resources to meet patient and service needs. Supervise staff grade dietitian in AMAU. Actively participate in student training and staff education and development programmes. Initiate and participate in nutrition-related research and disseminate results. Maintain professional competence and demonstrate commitment to Continuous Professional Development. Participate and cooperate with legislative and regulatory requirements in relation to Health and Safety as outlined in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the Hospital Safety Statement. Ensure own mandatory learning and training is kept up to date. Required: Candidates for appointment must: (i) Be registered as a Dietitian by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU And (ii) Have 3 years full time (or an aggregate of 3 years full time) post qualification dietetic experience. And (iii) Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office And (iv) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Dietitians Register maintained by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued. Annual registration (i) On appointment, practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Dietitians Register maintained by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU And (ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to Human Resources, St Jamess Hospital by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC) And Clinical skills to provide a comprehensive Clinical Nutrition service to Acute Medical Admissions Unit patients. Demonstrated comprehensive nutrition support skills in both enteral and parenteral nutrition. Desired: Previous experience in this area or a related area And Experience delivering dietetic service to frail older adults. Experience managing gastroenterology, hepatology and oncology patients. Demonstrated Behaviour Change and motivational interviewing skills. Service and pathway development across care settings. Demonstrated experience promoting and facilitating safe discharge.
