Foreman, Galway

Mayo County Council is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates with relevant experience for the position of Foreman. The Foreman role is that of a working foreman who will undertake general operative duties as part of the crew and lead the crew in their work.

The Foreman grade is a supervisory outdoor grade in Mayo County Council and is critical for ensuring quality service delivery to the public. The successful candidate will work closely with a wide range of local authority stakeholders including businesses, schools, towns committees, residents’ associations and other community groups. The role involves motivating and managing staff and fulfilling general, manual or related duties.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, proactive, self‑starter, adaptable, flexible, and capable of acting on their own initiative with a strong sense of commitment to delivering quality public services. The successful candidate shall report to the General Services Supervisor or other appropriate person as determined by the Council.

Education, Training, and Experience

Have a minimum of

two years

experience of civil works.

Have a minimum of

two years

experience in the supervision and management of staff.

Have a standard of education that would enable efficient performance of duties and must be capable of making satisfactory reports (including written reports) on matters pertaining to the duties of the post.

Be capable of carrying out the organisational duties attached to the role including keeping of records and a level of IT skills fitting for the role.

Hold a full, valid Category B Driving Licence (free from endorsement).
