Purpose Statement The Child Educator Assistant in preschool will support the Child Educator and/or classroom teacher in supervising preschool students and maintaining licensing best practices. Applicants must be able to work well with preschool-aged children, exhibit maturity, and maintain confidentiality.
Essential Functions
Works with Child Educator and/or classroom teacher to plan, organize, and direct recreational and educational activities aligned with Arizona Early Learning Standards.
Reads and follows Preschool&GPS Employee Handbooks.
Establishes and maintains effective relationships with children, parents, school staff, and community members.
Maintains positive interactions, safety, and management of preschool-aged children.
Assists with arranging the classroom/learning environment with the ECRS in mind.
Maintains an environment that promotes cooperation, learning, and enjoyment.
Assists children with special needs or disabilities and helps integrate them with others.
Supports implementation of the structured classroom behavior model (Prevent-Teach-Reinforce).
Assists in delivering developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with CLASS.
Assists with daily attendance, records, scheduling, implementing daily activities, distributing snacks, and ensuring compliance with AZDHS and state licensing rules.
Encourages high student participation in daily activities and planning. Assists visiting instructors.
Helps train and mentor other Child Educator Assistants, Aides, and Student Workers.
Assists with daily set‑up and take‑down of centers, including lifting/carrying tables, chairs, boxes, etc.
May act as Child Educator in absence of the educator.
May assist preschool-aged students needing daily care (toileting, dressing, medication, basic health care).
Assures quality indicators of selected accreditation standards are adhered to by staff.
Other Functions
Assists other personnel to support completion of their work activities.
Attends meetings, professional development, and training to acquire and convey information related to job functions.
Completes 24 hours of yearly licensing training required by AZDHS.
Job Requirements Mental Requirements
Learning Development– Level B: Sufficient to read/write technical information, perform basic arithmetic, understand common procedures, or operate equipment requiring some training. Equivalent to completion of a high school curriculum.
Problem Solving– Level 1: Routine work situations requiring attention and concentration with limited discretion and planning.
Physical Requirements
Physical Skill– Level A: Basic physical skill required; no special coordination beyond normal mobility and handling of everyday objects.
Physical Effort– Level 1: Minimal exertion; mostly sitting with occasional walking. Occasional lifting of lightweight materials.
Social Requirements
Human Relations Skill– Level A: Conversational skills and courtesy typical of routine assistance among work associates.
Scope of Contacts– Level 1: Primarily contacts with peers and immediate supervisor; occasional external contacts.
Work Environment
Performance Environment– Level A: Infrequent changes in environment, work pressure, or workflow disturbances.
Physical Working Conditions– Level 1: Generally good conditions with little exposure to extreme noise, temperature, or safety hazards.
Accountability
Level of Accountability– Level B: Responsible for producing independent work output under supervisory direction.
Organizational Impact– Level 1: Work results impact immediate group with little effect beyond.
Experience, Education, and Certifications
Minimum 6 months licensed care experience.
At least 18 years of age. High School diploma or equivalent required. Education in child development, recreation, education, or related field highly desirable.
Must complete 24 mandated training hours each year.
Must meet Arizona DHS Child Day Care Center Teacher‑Caregiver requirements.
Must possess a valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card while employed.
CPR/First Aid Recertification every two years.
Compensation Details
FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt
Pay Schedule: Hourly– Grade 105
Work Calendar: Support Staff– 9.5 Months
