Overview of role UPMC is hiring a Catering Assistant to deliver an efficient and timely service to all patients while maintaining a quality service. The role requires adherence to infection control standards, protocols, and HACCP regulations at all times.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Tray setting, cleaning trays and contents.

Taking patient meal orders with special attention to dietary requirements.

Serving meals and communicating with nursing staff about patients' dietary needs.

Cleaning equipment and work areas according to cleaning schedules and recommended detergents, keeping catering and service areas clean and hygienic at shift end.

Working closely with the Catering Supervisor, Ward Managers, Hospital Dietician and other staff to ensure nutritional and dietary requirements are met.

Covering the hospital canteen/Coffee Dock to provide backup during leave.

Maintain housekeeping standards and HACCP guidelines.

Comply with hospital procedures, dress code, and personal hygiene standards.

Follow any reasonable requests from the Catering Manager or other supervisors.

Record and monitor food temperatures in line with HACCP Standards.

Check temperatures of fridges, freezers, and dishwashers as required.

Attend HACCP training and all mandatory educational sessions.

Familiarise yourself with relevant policies, procedures and guidelines.

Assist in reviewing policies under direction of the department manager.

Support continuous improvement using lean tools and techniques.

Attend and participate in on site training as required.

Minimise waste and improve waste reduction.

Actively participate in quality and safety initiatives throughout the day.

Work with line managers to plan, monitor, analyse and improve quality programmes.

Help develop performance indicators in conjunction with department managers and business objectives.

Initiate, participate in and evaluate audits according to JCI, hospital policy and Lean requirements.

Take reasonable care to protect your safety, health and welfare, and that of others.

Cooperate with the hospital to ensure workplace safety, reporting any potentially dangerous incidents.

Attend annual education sessions on Fire, Health&Safety.

Personal and General Requirements Uniform policy reference:

Work may be required in other areas of the hospital as needed.

Provide satisfactory evidence of all training and experience when requested.

Respect the Mission Statement of the Hospital.

Qualifications&Experience Essential

Educated to Leaving Cert or equivalent.

Up to date HACCP training.

Interpersonal and communication skills.

Excellent listening and verbal communication.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills, working with other disciplines.

Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Positive adaptability to change.

Self disciplined and able to manage own time and workload.

Strong commitment to high quality customer service and continuous improvement.

Desirable

Previous work experience in a catering or food service role.

Salary:€30,000.00 - €38,796.00 per annum based on a 39 hour week.
