We are currently recruiting for the position of Healthcare Assistant (Endoscopy)  for a hospital based in Westmeath, Ireland.


Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation, care, and support of patients before, during, and after endoscopic procedures.
  • Support patients with daily living activities, mobility, hygiene, comfort, and safe transfer within the unit.
  • Prepare endoscopy rooms, equipment, and clinical areas to ensure procedures run safely and efficiently.
  • Provide post-procedure care and promptly report any patient concerns or changes in condition to nursing staff.
  • Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control, including hand hygiene, PPE use, and environmental cleanliness.
  • Assist with patient positioning, safe moving and handling practices, and Emergency First Aid under clinical supervision.
  • Support patient nutrition, hydration, and monitoring of fluid intake as directed by the nursing team.
  • Communicate effectively with registered nurses and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, compassionate, and efficient patient care.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to health & safety policies, reporting incidents, and following manual handling procedures.
  • Assist with stock control, documentation, unit organisation, mandatory training, and ongoing professional development.


Requirements
  • Leaving Certificate (or equivalent qualification) required
  • Healthcare FETAC Level 5 Qualification / QQI Major Award in Healthcare essential
  • Patient Care Support and Activities of Daily Living modules desirable
  • Previous experience in a healthcare, endoscopy, or theatre environment desirable but not essential
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
  • Basic IT skills and familiarity with electronic patient record systems desirable
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Professional, caring, and compassionate approach to patient care
  • Commitment to maintaining patient dignity, confidentiality, and privacy at all times
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development
