Role Description This full-time, on-site Substation Technician role is based in Mullingar. The Substation Technician will carry out routine and reactive electrical maintenance on substations, including inspection, testing, and servicing of electrical equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. Responsibilities include fault finding and troubleshooting, assisting with installation and commissioning of substation assets, and supporting planned outages and switching operations under appropriate authorization and safety procedures. The role also involves maintaining accurate maintenance records, completing technical reports, and adhering to company safety standards and regulatory requirements at all times. The Substation Technician will collaborate with engineering and project teams to support upgrades, modifications, and continuous improvement of substation performance.

Qualifications

Strong practical skills in electrical maintenance and working knowledge of electricity systems in a substation environment.

Ability to troubleshoot faults and apply sound electrical engineering principles to diagnose and resolve issues safely and efficiently.

Experience working with substation electrical equipment such as switchgear, transformers, protection systems, and associated control and instrumentation.

Relevant technical qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installation, or a related discipline (apprenticeship or equivalent experience considered).

Demonstrated commitment to safety, including familiarity with electrical safety rules, permits-to-work, and lockout/tagout procedures.

Capability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.

Effective teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively on-site and follow established procedures and instructions.

Full driving license and willingness to work on a rota, including occasional overtime or call-out, as required by project and operational needs.
