Job Description We are seeking a Senior Transport Planner to join our Transport Planning&Mobility team in Ireland. This role is based in WSP's Naas office and offers hybrid working, allowing for a mix of in‑office and home work.
Responsibilities As a Senior Transport Planner you will support a range of transport projects across the WSP business, with the potential to lead on Irish transport planning projects. You will work across modes to develop transport strategies, active travel infrastructure schemes, business cases, and support the development of transport programmes and projects from inception through to completion.
Supporting the senior management team on a variety of Transport Planning projects and proposals (both technical and commercial inputs) and leading on project tasks and outputs.
Working as part of multi‑disciplinary teams and with other WSP service lines to deliver large multi‑disciplinary projects from concept to delivery.
Supporting the senior management team in the development of proposals.
Working with UK transport and mobility colleagues to deliver transport planning projects across the UK.
Making an active contribution to WSP's four key pillars (People; Clients&Growth; Operations; and Expertise).
You will have an opportunity to work collaboratively with our Net Zero, Future Mobility and Freight growth areas on a range of innovative strategies for our public sector clients, as well as our extensive range of expertise practice groups, including Public Transport, Active Travel and Transport Communications.
About the Team Our transport planning technical work serves clients across Ireland and the UK, covering active travel solutions; public transport network planning; scheme development and appraisal; and business case development. Clients include Local Authorities and National Government organisations. The Ireland transport and mobility team is a new discipline within WSP Ireland, providing an exciting opportunity for ambitious transport planners.
There will be opportunities to undertake technical work and develop skills in client engagement, sales, and project management.
Qualifications
Experience in active travel, including delivery of NTA PAG Phase 2-4 schemes.
Experience developing transport‑focused strategies, plans and policies, including delivering transport plans through the ABTA process.
Experience in other transport planning fields such as business case development, transport assessments, scheme feasibility, concept design, etc.
Experience working with Local Authority clients or willingness to develop such experience.
Experience or willingness to develop client and sales skills, including bid writing, client engagement and attendance at local sales events.
The ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects and tasks to meet deadlines.
Ability to successfully deliver presentations and liaise with a variety of audiences– colleagues, public sector officials, members of the public and other key project stakeholders.
Experience or willingness to learn commercial skills, including undertaking the role of Project Manager/Assistant Project Manager.
Ability to manage tasks and support wider team management, leading more junior members.
Working towards Chartered status or other relevant professional qualification (e.g., Engineers Ireland, CIHT, TPP, CEng).
