Senior Radiation Therapist– UPMC Hillman Cancer Centre Waterford

Overview UPMC Hillman Cancer Centre in Waterford is hiring a Senior Radiation Therapist on a permanent, full-time contract. The role involves preparing and delivering radiotherapy to patients with cancer or other benign conditions, providing psychosocial support, ensuring adherence to safety regulations, and engaging in continuous professional development. The Senior Radiation Therapist also leads and mentors junior team members, manages workflow within the clinical area, and participates in multidisciplinary care coordination.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain an atmosphere of caring, concern, and support for patients of all age ranges, visitors, medical staff and co‑workers.

Deliver radiation treatment according to prescription, ensuring safety and consistent practice of departmental procedures.

Assure the quality of treatment delivery through accurate documentation of treatment records and evaluation of electronic images.

Explain treatment procedures to patients and families, and refer medical questions to appropriate personnel.

Perform CT simulation and clinical mark‑ups, including the administration of oral and IV contrast agents; document and input data into ARIA.

Assist in the orientation, supervision and evaluation of students during clinical rotations.

Assist as needed in all treatment‑related procedures and at other UPMC Ireland locations.

Use effective communication techniques to address patient concerns and observe patients for expected or unexpected reactions.

Perform daily and weekly QA activities on assigned equipment; report deviations to Physics immediately.

Attend multidisciplinary team meetings for patient care coordination.

Maintain a safe, orderly treatment room and cover emergency treatment situations.

Ensure smooth running of the daily treatment list and make decisions regarding patient treatment.

Train and supervise junior staff, ensuring competency completion.

Participate in staff performance reviews and contribute to staff development.

Assist the Clinical Specialist team in developing and implementing new technology and procedures.

Maintain familiarity with the administrative tasks associated with departmental operations.

Engage in continuous professional development in line with CORU registration guidelines.

Qualifications&Experience Qualifications:

Completion of a recognised qualification in Radiation Therapy by the Radiographers Registration Board (CORU).

Maintain annual registration with CORU.

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years full‑time post‑qualification clinical experience.

Salary:

€53,195.66 – €69,136.16 per annum (35‑hour work week)
